The love stories born on the set

Sometimes a 'fake' love, written in a script, can go beyond the plot of a film or TV series and become real: many times, in fact, couples called to work together to act have later fallen in love in real life.

Sometimes these love stories ended badly, sometimes not, and these couples continue to endure even years after their first meeting on set.

We present some historical couples who formed first on the scripts and then on the film set and beyond.

When love becomes reality
Sometimes a 'pretend' love, written in a script, can go beyond the plot of a film or TV series and become real: many times, in fact, couples called to work together to act have then fallen in love in real life. Sometimes these love stories ended badly, sometimes not, and these couples continue to endure even years later. Here are some historical couples that have formed on film sets and beyond.

Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith
Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, one of the most loved couples in the entire star system for the solidity of their relationship, capable of overcoming even moments of crisis. The two met on the set of 'Will - The Fresh Prince of Bel Air', in which Jada did not have a part, but for which she had auditioned, leaving Will Smith impressed: subsequently, the couple married and from their relationship were born the actors and singers Jaden and Willow Smith.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds
When Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds met on the set of the film 'Green Lantern', based on the DC Comics character, in 2010, she was engaged to Penn Badgley, he was married to Scarlett Johansson. But the passion between the two was too strong and they both left their respective partners. Lively and Reynolds later married in 2012 and had four children.

The film that sparked the love between Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel was 'The Apartment' in 1996. Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks
One of the most enduring love stories among those born on the set: this is the case of Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks, who in 1985, after starring in "Volunteers," married and had two children. Hanks also converted to the Orthodox faith to marry his beloved Rita.

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise
A long, intense but troubled love story. Nicole Kidman teamed up with Tom Cruise in the 1989 film 'Days of Thunder' and in 1990 the two got married, only to divorce in 2001. Apparently, one of the reasons for the end of the relationship was another film in which the couple starred together, namely 'Eyes Wide Shut', Stanley Kubrick's last film: the director himself apparently demanded an exhausting work of introspection on the couple, as the film was about a marital crisis. In the end, given the long and troubled filming time, the marital crisis really hit Kidman and Cruise, who ended up breaking up.

Lucy Boynton and Rami Malek
In 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Rami Malek played Freddie Mercury and Lucy Boynton played the role of the Queen frontman's historical partner, Mary Austin. Once the filming of the movie was over, the love story then continued and since 2018 the two actors have been happily engaged.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher met on the set, but not of a film, but of a sitcom, namely 'That '70s Show', which aired from 1998 to 2006. However, the love between the two actors was not born immediately: it took 14 years for the couple to get engaged, in 2012, and then married in 2015 in Hollywood.

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly
Machine Gun Kelly was already a fan of Megan Fox long before he met her in person. The singer himself admitted that he accepted a part in 'Midnight in the Switchgrass' because he knew he would be acting alongside Megan: love was born on the set, crowned with a marriage proposal in January 2022.

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling
In 2012, Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling starred together in the film 'The Place beyond the Pines' and it was love at first sight: the two got married in a private ceremony in early 2016 and had two daughters, Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee.

Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig
The last James Bond actor has dedicated himself to other projects over the years and met his future wife on the set of a film that had nothing to do with the 007 saga. Craig and Rachel Weisz in fact starred together in the film 'Dream House', a controversial feature film that after its release turned out to be a flop, so much so that the director Jim Sheridan decided to disown the film: even Craig and Weisz themselves refused to promote the feature film, not being interviewed by the press.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
In the summer of 2004, the spy thriller 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' introduced Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, whose love story was among the most talked-about in Hollywood. The two got married in 2014 and became the parents of six children. Shortly before their divorce in 2016, the couple starred together again in another film, namely 'By the Sea', directed by Angelina Jolie herself.
